GAME OF THE MONTH COLLECTION!
JACKIE CHAN'S Action Kung Fu
(Hudson Soft, 1992)

Introduction and Story:

Now here's one of big surprises for the old Turbografx-16 here! Not only does this rare game star martial arts movie actor Jackie Chan (star of flicks like Drunken Master, Rush Hour, Operation Condor, and many more) but his video game here is actually pretty good too. If you don't know the deal this is a little cartoony but fast paced action game where you jump from platform to platform and destroy bad guys and cute animals along the way. Sounds good to me!

Anyway the story for this game is you are the legendary Jackie Chan of course and you and your sister are just enjoying a walk outside when she gets kidnapped by this evil socerer. Now you are on a dangerous mission through 7 stages so you can rescue her.

The game play and bottomline:
If you played other Hudson Soft platformers like JJ & Jeff and Adventure Island before then this Jackie Chan game will seem pretty fimilar. Go from point A to point B and waste any enemy that gets in the way and all that junk. What sets this game apart from the rest though is you can do different techniques like a hard roundhouse kick and even a fireball if you have enough power ups. Of course to get these goodies you'll have beat up several enemeis like evil henchmen to even giant tigers.

Jackie Chan's AKF also lets you beat up cute little frogs too but I guess it's all in good fun since the game has this cartoonish style to it. The visuals don't push the limits of the Turbo but they are colourful at least and a lot of stages even have parallax scrolling in the background. The music is also pretty good here and the sound effect don't suck as well.

Although there is little you haven't already seen in dozen of other action platform title before Jackie Chan's Action Kung Fu is still a very good game here with good controls, solid graphics, and most importantly its fun to play.
Here is my 4 minute video review of Jackie Chan's Action Kung Fu too! Warning: there is some swearing in it:
Conclusion:
