DUD OF THE MONTH COLLECTION!
JACK NICKLAUS Turbo Golf
(Accolade, 1990)

Intro and story:
OK, now we're talking! Just like Tiger Woods and Happy Gilmore; Jack Nicklaus is easily one of the greatest golfers of all time and having a video game about this famous dude seems like a decent idea, eh? Yeah, even though it's just going to be a golfing game and a bet a lot of kids would be disappointed getting one of those as a birthday or holiday present, still a good golf title can be very addictive and if you don't believe me just play the insanely fun Hot Shots Golf series. Jack Nicklaus Turbo Golf here not only comes with tons of modes but you even get enhanced CD audio compared to the original card version. It's a real shame this game sucks.
The game play and bottomline:
Now the game starts off alright thanks to the fancy intro (although they are just still shots so don't expect everything too amazing). The CD quality music playing in the background is nice plus that wasn't in the standard card edition so that's all good but then you start up a game and this happens. JN Turbo Golf here comes with very annoying and very, VERY long load times where the screen slowly opens up per turns and shots so you'll waiting a lot here. Just to warn ya unless you have the patience to wait for the screen to appear you should be really playing something else right off the bat.

If the slow loading doesn't turn you off (it should) the game also comes with some of the worst visuals you can find on the Turbografx-16. The intro and intermissions are OK but the actual in-game stuff looks absolutely ancient with poor use of colour thanks to the crappy paint program they used, and the on-screen interface is very ugly too that just works on percentages. Maybe there is a good golfing here somewhere but it's just buried underneath so much s#$%. The game ended up being easily more tedious then playable so it's best to avoid this slow and boring title here and go with the far better Power Golf or the lame card version instead.
Here is my 4 minute video review:
